This was the first ever piece of art that I created after the open-heart surgery that I underwent in 2020. The papers in the background of this artwork are the original documents from my pre-operative, post-operative, and surgical procedures. I soaked the papers in coffee to give them their worn-down, vintage look. I drew each part of the heart separately: the vena cava, aorta, pulmonary arteries, and atria. Then delicately pieced them together, creating my own mini, artistic surgery! This piece was as fun to make as it is breathtaking to look at.
Surgery for the Soul captures what it was like to undergo such a transformative procedure. I felt that my energy center for the heart (the Heart Chakra) was activated and operating more efficiently after my surgery, as well as my physical heart, as they are intertwined and integral to one another.
